Brunch and Cake- yummy and pretty breakfast!

when m and i were trying to decide on a 'babymoon' destination we went back and forth with so many different options and risks. the biggest risk was going somewhere with zika- which would've been the ideal 'babymoon'- somewhere warm, beachy, over water, just pure relaxation but when it came down to it, it just wasn't worth the risk of getting bit by one of those tiny little beasts!! we knew we wanted to get out of the states and Spain had been on m's list forever now, so we made it happen! we also decided to spend a few days on the beautiful island of mallorca so i could get my island fix and we'd have the best of both worlds! barcelona was such a darling little city filled with culture, art, and history. i just fell in love with all the charming little bistros and balconies on every corner.
once we landed in Barcelona, we took a taxi to our hotel which was in the Eixample neighborhood. it cost us about 40 euros for the ride. our hotel was located on Paseo De Gracia which is central to a lot of Gaudi's famous buildings so we literally walked everywhere from here. it was so convenient!
after a day of exploring the pretty architecture of Barcelona, we decided to take a day trip up to Montserrat. we took a train which cost us 20 euros each and took 1.5 hours of traveling through gorgeous scenic mountains. when we got to the top, we bundled up, bought some hot chocolate and took in the breathtaking views. the Santa Maria de Montserrat monastery was just absolutely beautiful from the inside. there was so much intricate detail to every little corner on that building. i definitely recommend this trip if you have half a day to spare! just take the FGC train from Barcelona's Placa d'Espanya station and take the R5 line in the direction of Manresa. you will not regret it!
we also spent a lot of our time in the Gothic Quarter which is where a lot of the shops, restaurants, and live music was. we loved walking around this area!
one of the best memories we made was walking through the La Boqueria market. it was phenomenal! our typical saturday market on steroids. you could buy literally anything there from duck, chicken, veggies, dessert. we got some yummy fresh juices and macaron gelato sandwiches! i wish we had gotten an airbnb so i could buy a bunch of groceries and cook us a feast!
our flight to Mallorca (Majorca) was an easy peasy short 30 min. we literally took off and landed. we rented a car here because it was so much easier and cheaper for us to drive around the island with the freedom of going wherever, whenever we wanted! the island itself is about 1400 square miles. some sites took us 1.5 hours to drive to. we drove a total of 500 km in the two days we used the car and the car cost us 200 euros. a taxi would've probably been a ridiculous amount. driving around this gorgeous island actually ended up being my favorite part of the whole trip. the weather was so perfect (60 degrees ish Fahrenheit),  and the views spectacular. we drove through the cutest little villages, with the prettiest quaint alleys. we drove up and down the curviest and massive mountains, next to vertical cliffs, walked along the bluest beaches, and walked down the cutest european pavements. just picture something in between napa valley, hawaii, and italy. literally the best. just gorgeous.
we stayed at BO hotel in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, right next to the beach, shops, tapas restaurants, and bars. it was a trendy little boutique hotel which was hard to find at first because it is located in the middle of a bunch of adorable alleys. but if i were to pick a place to stay in again, i'd probably try to book one in one of the towns i fell in love with. just because i prefer country-scenic over city-night life.
the towns i fell in love with which i highly recommend anyone drive through if given the chance:
Deia, ValldeMossa, Capdepera, Andratx

this little trip ended up being a perfect baby moon destination for so many reasons! it was cool weather so during all my hot flashes i just threw off a layer and was just fine, i was able to relax, enjoy the balearic sea, but also able to walk around to get some exercise in. i ate all the yummy food and pasteries (although i did miss out on some good cheese and seafood)! and it wasn't too long of a flight!
where all have y'all been as a getaway before baby?
